Almost 50 years ago, I sat in your seat wondering where life would take me. I was very fortunate, I signed a scholarship to play football at the University of Alabama. 1979 rolls around, I was the number one pick for the New York Jets. In 1982, on March 8th, my father died of a massive heart attack. And on March 10th, two days later, a little boy that I was a big brother to died of leukemia at the age of five and a half. Here it is, the tragedy in life is knocking at my door. What am I going to do? So I started a foundation for terminally ill children. Kids like yourself. But unfortunately, childhood cancer has affected their life. Because 60% of the kids that we work with will not live to see the age of 18. In 41 years, we’ve helped over 8,300 families. We’ve raised over $43 million. But it took a tragedy in my life for me to open up and realize what life is all about. Every opportunity you get to explore what life is going to bring you, take it. Dream anything you want, that’s the beauty of the human mind. Never stop dreaming. Never let somebody tell you you can’t do something. You want change in this world? Speak up. Live life to the fullest by making the right choice. My question to you, what are you going to do to make this world better? You have to make that choice to make a difference in somebody’s life.
