About This Video Project
Northshore Schools hired us to create a series of documentaries that would replace the schools’ winter concerts. In normal times we would have gone to each school to film interviews and b-roll. These were not normal times. We weren’t allowed to go into the schools because of restrictions. So instead, we tutored the teachers on iPhone filming techniques to capture the students practicing, playing, and talking about their experiences. The footage came in over a series of weeks. This allowed us to give feedback on what was shot and request visuals that we still needed. We wrapped up each production by remotely interviewing the teachers themselves. This allowed us to give context and insight into the process of teaching music to children during the COVID-19 pandemic.

Each video needed to address several aspects of the current status quo.
1. The method each class teacher used to teach during the pandemic
2. The safety preparations being used to ensure the children’s safety
3. How the kids were handling this new type of schooling
4. How the power of music helped the kids during a tough time
We used this set of guides to start categorizing and organizing footage. This way we had buckets of sound bits to draw from when putting sections together. This assured us we didn’t miss moments we wanted to include.
